The problem

Divorce is hard.
The legal system shouldn't make it harder.

Divorce is usually expensive, emotionally destructive, and drawn out. Not because it has to be. But because there hasn't been a better way.

Until now.

On Good Terms is South Africa's first AI-guided, consensual separation platform, designed to help couples reach a fair, low-conflict agreement, at a fraction of the cost of a traditional divorce.

Traditional divorce
On Good Termsa kinder way

Devastatingly expensive

Typically R20,000–R150,000+ per person. You're billed hourly for every email, phone call, and argument, leaving you with less to start your new life.

One flat fee

R26,600 per couple. No hourly rates, no hidden costs, and no surprise bills. You get full transparency from the start for a fraction of the cost.

Escalated conflict

Each opposing lawyer fights to "win" for one side, turning your separation into a process. Respect erodes, damaging your co-parenting dynamic for years to come.

Neutral facilitation

Our AI acts as a perfectly neutral mediator, stripping away blame and bias. By focusing on interests rather than positions, we de-escalate tension and protect the respect you have for each other.

It takes forever

A traditional divorce often takes 6–12 months in the best case, and can drag on for 5+ years in the worst. This "extended limbo" keeps you trapped in the past.

Structured & fast

We move you through the process as quickly as you're both ready. By removing administrative bottlenecks and lawyer-to-lawyer delays, we get you to your Decree of Divorce efficiently.

How it works

Five steps
to an amicable outcome.

Our platform guides you both through a structured process, privately, at your own pace, with AI facilitating, and lawyers reviewing every step.

01

Create your private account

Each party begins by setting up a secure, private account. You complete your confidential intake individually, covering relationship, finances, children, and living arrangements, at your own pace. Your information remains completely private; nothing is shared with your ex-partner until you're ready.

02

See the full picture

Once both parties have submitted their information, the platform generates a clear, side-by-side Joint Summary Report. This identifies where you already agree and highlights the specific areas that require further resolution, all presented neutrally, clearly, and without blame.

03

Negotiate with intelligent support

Move through key decisions with guided assistance. The platform facilitates constructive dialogue by translating individual needs into balanced, neutral language, while providing helpful explanations and practical options for every issue. Your Settlement Agreement and Parenting Plan build in real time, with ongoing oversight from our attorneys.

04

Finalise and sign your agreements

Once all key issues are settled, your documents, a workable Settlement Agreement and Parenting Plan professionally structured to legal requirements, are ready for implementation. You'll both sign your quality-assured agreements to make them final.

05

We handle the court, you get your divorce order

We manage the legal finalisation on your behalf. We prepare and submit your Parenting Plan to the Family Advocate for endorsement, handle all necessary court documentation, secure a court date and advocate for your hearing, leading to you obtaining your final Decree of Divorce.

Wondering how to raise this?

You don't have to explain it, or talk anyone into anything. We wrote a page for the person you're separating from: what this is, whose side it's on, and what taking part does and doesn't commit them to.

About us

Built by people who've
experienced what the system does.

We believe ending a marriage shouldn't be harder than it already is. On Good Terms was built by people who've been there, and who want to give divorcing couples a better option.

Jen Paddock

Legal

Jen is a dual-qualified lawyer, CEDR-accredited mediator, educator, entrepreneur and business owner. Throughout her career, she has focused on making complex legal issues understandable, practical and easier for people to navigate.

Her own experience of divorce showed her that even when two people are committed to separating respectfully, the process itself can make an already difficult time harder than it needs to be. She co-founded On Good Terms to bring together law, mediation and technology to improve that process, helping couples navigate separation with greater clarity, less conflict and a better chance of remaining on good terms.

Spiro Malamoglou

Technology

Spiro is a developer, technology entrepreneur and business owner, but at heart he is a builder. Throughout his career, he has creatively built and used technology to solve real problems, and create better ways of doing things.

Going through his own divorce brought that instinct into personal territory. He came away convinced that the process could and should be better. He co-founded On Good Terms to help build that alternative: using technology thoughtfully to make divorce more efficient, less adversarial and ultimately kinder for everyone involved.

Because how you separate matters:
For
you.
For
your children.
For
the life you're both moving into next.

FAQ

Frequently asked
questions.

Still wondering? Here are the questions we hear most often. If yours isn't covered, drop us a line.

Yes. Your Settlement Agreement, and your Parenting Plan if you have children, are professionally structured to meet South African legal requirements and are reviewed by our attorneys.

Once finalised, we submit your Parenting Plan to the Family Advocate for endorsement (if applicable), and then everything to court on your behalf. Your Settlement Agreement and Parenting Plan form part of your final Decree of Divorce, making them legally binding and enforceable.

Not quite, and that's the point. Traditional divorce involves two opposing lawyers, which often escalates conflict and cost. On Good Terms uses a neutral, structured process with legal oversight to help you reach agreement together.

You still benefit from legal expertise, just without the adversarial dynamic. Because the process is neutral, it acts for neither of you, and it gives you legal information rather than advice on your own position.

You are always free to take your own legal advice. We encourage it. Your Settlement Agreement records that each of you had the opportunity of obtaining independent legal advice, so we make sure that is true: you are told, before you sign, that you may have your own attorney read the final documents. It is a single predictable cost, and it takes nothing away from what the two of you have agreed. Nothing is binding until you have both read the final documents and signed them.

That's completely normal. Most couples don't start in full agreement. The platform is designed to help you work through differences step by step, with guided support that focuses on what's fair and workable for both of you.

In many cases, couples are able to reach agreement through this structured process alone. If you do hit issues you can't resolve, you're not locked in, you can pause and explore other options, but you'll already have clarified the areas of agreement, narrowing the scope of any remaining dispute.

On Good Terms is best suited to couples who:

  • Are willing to engage in a respectful, structured process
  • Want to avoid unnecessary conflict and cost
  • Are open to reaching a fair agreement

We serve civil marriages and civil unions only. We are not the right fit if you are in a customary marriage, a Muslim marriage, or a marriage governed by the law of another country.

If you have dependent children, we are also not the right fit while any of the following is happening:

  • One parent is withholding or materially restricting contact
  • You cannot agree where your child should presently live
  • One parent is making major decisions alone and the other objects
  • There is an unresolved decision about schooling, relocation, medical care or religion
  • You repeatedly cannot put the existing care arrangement into practice
  • There is a live dispute about maintenance affecting your child's support
  • One parent has threatened or started litigation because you cannot reach agreement

Where parents are having this kind of difficulty, the Children's Act expects a parenting plan to be worked out with the Family Advocate, a social worker, a psychologist or a mediator. That calls for a person rather than a platform at the mediation stage, so we would not be serving you well.

It may also not be appropriate in cases involving domestic violence or safety concerns, or where one party is unwilling to participate at all. If you're unsure, ask us first and we'll tell you honestly.

The platform is designed specifically for this dynamic. You don't communicate directly in a way that escalates conflict. Instead, the AI facilitates the process, translating input into neutral, constructive language and guiding both of you toward resolution.

This often makes progress possible where traditional conversations break down.

Yes. One of you creates an account and invites the other. Both parties need to participate for the process to work, the goal is a mutual agreement.

The invitation comes from us, not from you, so you aren't left having to sell the idea. It points them to a page written for them, explaining what On Good Terms is, that it isn't acting for you, and what taking part does and doesn't commit them to.

It depends on how quickly both of you move through the steps. Some couples finalise within a few weeks; others take longer depending on the complexity of their situation.

Once your agreements are signed, we move efficiently to secure your court date and finalise your divorce.

Yes. Completely. Each of you has your own private account, and your information is not shared until you're ready. The platform is built with strict confidentiality and data protection in mind.

Everything you need from start to final divorce order:

  • Structured intake and financial disclosure
  • AI-guided negotiation
  • Drafting of your Settlement Agreement and Parenting Plan
  • Legal review by attorneys
  • Family Advocate endorsement (where applicable)
  • Court preparation, filing, and advocate representation
  • Your final Decree of Divorce
